Superintendent’s Message

To the students and families of the Clark County School District,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! After a year in which our students were educated mostly through distance learning because of the pandemic, I am excited that our students can start this school year in the classroom with face-to-face instruction from their teachers.

The past year was one of the toughest that students, families, and our educators have ever experienced. The pandemic resulted in unimaginable lives lost, economic distress, and emotional upheaval.

We are eternally grateful for our community partners and officials from local, state, and federal government who have stood by our side and helped us weather this storm. They have provided their expertise and lent a helping hand by securing donations and critical funding to help educate our students.

Thankfully, the pandemic and its effects on the economy and society are subsiding. We are starting to see our community thrive again. Nonetheless, now is when some of the most challenging work begins. CCSD is shifting from mere survival during the darkest days of the pandemic to rebuilding and excelling on behalf of our students.

Our goal is to make sure that students are whole so they grow and flourish – academically, socially, and emotionally. Many students took advantage of CCSD’s Summer Acceleration program that expanded upon our traditional summer learning offerings. Not only did this provide exceptional academic support, but it also allowed students to engage face-to-face with peers and re-form the bonds of friendship.

When students return fully to the classroom for the 2021-2022 school year, I want to assure you that CCSD will do everything in its power so that students reach a new normalcy. I hope this issue of the Back to School Reporter provides important information for you to refer to now and during the upcoming school year. If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions during the school year, please reach out to your school’s administration.

It is difficult to put into words just how much I am looking forward to this school year. At the start of every school year, there is optimism about what will unfold. This year seems even more special because of what we have endured together. I know that all of us – students, families, and educators – will emerge stronger and more resilient in the days, months, and years ahead.

Let’s have a great school year!

All the best,
Dr. Jesus F. Jara, Superintendent of Schools
